As you may know, I’m not exactly a computer geek. When something happens that is unexpected or isn’t supposed to happen I go into “whine mode”. I don’t want to think about why my computer doesn’t want to work, I just want it to work. Is that too much to ask?
Fortunately, I happen to be married to a man that likes to figure out things what makes them tick. So we balance out. Unfortunately, he doesn’t always like to make adjustments to my computer in a manner that is timely enough for me. (This would be RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE!) Sometimes, the foolish man even dares to laugh at me when I try to tell him what is wrong with the computer. Like when I recently told him that I thought the poor thing was infested with Gremlins.
I know they’ve been around for a while. I can always tell when they’ve been up to their nasty tricks because my computer has been rebooted. Shaun just shrugs and tells me it’s because of the automatic updates that require a reboot. (Like I believe that my computer requires updates a few times a week!)
Apparently, Gremlins thrive in the heat because my problems have been escalating. It seems as though every time I turn around, my computer has been turning itself off. (Well, I think you-know-whats have been doing it.) Then a couple of funny little things have been happening. Like all of a sudden I now have a Yahoo! Toolbar on my screen that I do not want. Then my blog was in Spanish for a little while. I am very careful where I click and what I open online. (I’ve been well trained) Finally Shaun got tired of hearing me whine and told me to get up from my computer. He quickly took the case off and directed one of our precious few fans directly into the guts of the computer.
He muttered something about my video card and broken fans and mumble, mumble, grumble…. I personally think that he opened an escape door and blew the Gremlins right out of there!
Either way, it’s really nice to have my computer just working again. That’s the way it is supposed to be.
