Kt and I have been working on a little project while the rest of our family is away. Last night we realized that we needed a little something from the store to continue our work. So we scurried ourselves together and made a mad dash in order to get to the store before it closed on us. We were just thrilled to get there with ten minutes to spare. We quickly made our selection (OK, it wouldn’t have been so quick if they hadn’t been flashing the lights on and off and making announcements to get everyone out of there every two minutes!) then started back home.
We did, however, have to make a slight detour. The lights of the nearby Target beckoned to us. They were staying open late just for us. So naturally we thought it would only be right to oblige them by going in. An hour or so later, we were finally ready to go home. Except for the lure of Dairy Queen… We can’t help it if we are weak! As we sat enjoying our frosty treats, KT stated that “Everyday has been just like Girl’s Day Out”
Huh? For our family, Girl’s Day Out is a very special outing for just us girls. It only happens once in a blue moon or so. It usually involves a full day of going to a movie, shopping, dinner and always stopping at DQ.
I just looked at KT and asked what she meant. It wasn’t like we were doing all that much shopping and DQ-ing. She just looked at me and smiled. Then she told me that we were just doing something really fun together every single day.
Now those are words to warm a mama’s heart. Having our family separated these last few weeks has been really hard on all of us. I also think it’s also been really good for us. Our girls have both thrived on having so one on one time with a parent. It will be interesting to see how the girls act when we are all together again in a few days. (If you are between Seattle and Utah and think you see an orange jeep zip by…that would be Shaun and Mimi…they are so ready to be home.)
But until they get here, it will be just us girls…
