Did I say the redwood trees?

I meant we were going to see the palm trees!

Yes, our plan was definitely to go see the Redwood Forest. However, by the time we realized that we had somehow managed to miss the turn off to Highway 101, we were about fifty miles down the road. According to our Streets and Maps software, the only way to get over to it from I-5 was to backtrack. There was no way I was going to do that!

So after a very short discussion, we decided to just get the tedious 851.6 miles (by kt’s calculations) done and over with in one lengthy day. And it was a long, long day. It didn’t help that the cops were out in force and I had to go the speed limit. (Not that I wouldn’t be anyways!) and that there was a really horrible accident in the heart of LA that blocked off the freeway for just over an hour and a half. We finally made it to my folks place in San Diego at around 2:30 AM and promptly fell into our bed. The last thing that I remember was kt giggling that we were like three peas in a pod.

Today’s big issue was what we were going to eat. Both of my parents have had gastric bypass surgery in the last year. They can only eat about two ounces of food at a time. Needless to say, we were a little concerned that we would have to go door to door begging for food.

My folks also concerned about food issues. Mostly because the girls had became vegetarians about a year ago. This led to a few interesting conversations.

Gma (grandma): So…will the girls eat fowl?

Me: Foul? Thinking of soccer balls

Gma: Yeah, you know, like chicken and turkey

Me: Nope. Just the soy versions.

Gma: How about sausage? They’ll eat sausage, everyone likes sausage.

Me: Those are made out of meat Mom, they don’t eat any meat.

Gma: Oh…eggs! Will they eat eggs?

Me: Yes, they’ll eat eggs…only Mimi doesn’t like them.

Gpa: How about tuna, we’ve got lots of tuna.

Me: OK, you guys….they don’t eat anything with eyes, does that help?

They are really having a hard time wrapping their minds about this new-fangled vegetarian thing.

I’m not going to tell you what we are doing tomorrow, because I’ll probably jinx it!

  1. I’ve had exactly this vegetarian conversation with my 90 year old friends who try and sneak meat into everything coming my way cuz they’re convinced it’s not healthy to be vegetarian. Too funny. So how are those Palm – Redwood trees looking?
