This has been interesting…

I had a whole list of things I had planned to write about, but I can’t for the life of me think of what they were.  So, I’ll just babble off the top of my head…I’m pretty good at that!

We are kicking ourselves for deciding that we didn’t really need a generator as the power always comes back on right away.  We are going on our forth night with no power. It’s below freezing outside and not much warmer inside.  I never thought I would see the day that I could see my breath in my own house.  Mimi is staying with my folks who have a generator in their RV.  KT has been staying with us, but tonight is with her best friend who just got their generator repaired.  We were invited to stay as well, but Shaun needs to be in the house to make sure his tropical critters are warm enough.  I thought that I would stay with him to keep him company.  (I’m not sure if I am loyal, sweet or really, really dumb!)

The storm was pretty scary.  The winds were howling at 75 mph and you could hear the tree branches slamming down on the roof.  We had no idea how bad it really was until we headed out the next morning.  We thought that we would just take in a movie and when we got back the power would be up.  The house three houses away from us has a tree fall onto it’s roof.  There wasn’t too much damage, but really any damage at all is too much.  There are trees and utility poles down all over the place.  Wires dangling in the road are common.  They say that we won’t have power in our area for at least another week.  Not very fun.

I’ll check in when I can.  Think warm wishes toward us!

Stay warm and safe! Hopefully they will get it done ahead of schedule.

And be carefull when it’s clean up time.

  2. Kell says:

Sending you warming vibes! I’m so glad you guys are OK. Hope the clean up goes well and you get electricity back soon. Take care!

FOUR DAYS? What is taking the power company so long? ANOTHER WEEK? Good grief! Being not that far north of you, we’ve had some doozy storms too in past weeks/months but *knocks wood* the power hasn’t gone out here at our apartment once. Not once.

I think we’re the only folks I know who can say that. *knocks wood more firmly this time*

Hang in there and we’re thinking of you!

Warm wishes for you…warm wishes for you…warm wishes for you!

Hard to imagine it being that cold there right now.We are all whinging here because the temps are up to100 and bush fires are burning in all states.Everyone is on water restrictions but that situation pales next to no power and no heat in the northern winter. We send you hot wishes and hope your situation improves soon.Love ya all

So glad you weathered the storm well, though it certainly doesn’t sound like it was much fun. I have been thinking of you when watching the news. The West Coast storms have been making the headlines all the way here in New England. Since it has been so unseasonably mild, I’m sure our region has some warmth to spare, I’ll make sure to put in my request with Old Man Winter.

Hope you are doing okay! Hang in there and don’t worry about forgetting what you were going to write about, we all do it. 🙂

If your loyalty (or craziness) falters you are welcome at my house which is once again warm. Hope you guys get heat soon. The good news is, based on the folks I’ve talked to who had power come on in the last day or so, it sounds like they are buffering their estimates so people don’t yell at them as much.

  8. Freakazojd says:

Oh my goodness! I hope you have a warm Christmas (or other?) at the very least! I can’t believe the weather you’re having!!
Don’t forget – one of the best ways to warm up is body heat! Wink wink! 🙂

  9. gawilli says:

Merry Christmas to you! I sure hope all is well with you and yours!

  10. mjd says:

Merry Christmas, I hope that it is warm now.

We have a similar dilemma about buying a generator or maybe it is procrastination. About once a year, our basement seeps water in heavy rainfalls. Luckily, we have not had power outages at the same time of torrential rains. This fall our power did not go out, but our *sump pump overheated and died. As a result, we had 4 inches of water in the basement. My husband bought a submersible pump that sucked about all of the water in 30 minutes. Because the submersible pump is in water, overheating should not be a problem. However, if the power goes out for any length of time, we are screwed.

I hope you’re having a Merry Christmas Susan!
