The Weekend in Sports

My intentions were to simply post photos of our sports weekend (it was also my intention to do this yesterday!) but taking photos in a poorly lit gym doesn’t work out so well. At least not for me…sigh…I guess I’ll just have to tell you about it.  I’ll still put in the photos, but be warned…they are BAD.

Our sports weekend actually began on Thursday.  Mimi is on the dance team at school.  Because of little things like a sprained ankle and power outages, this was to be her first performance. It was to be during the boy’s basketball game.   To say that she was nervous would be an understatement.  At half-time the excited girls came out ready to dance.  They were pretty good, not really together and with no expression…but not bad.  What was bad was the way the basketball team was hooting and whistling at the girls.  I’m not ready to think of my baby as someone that boys will whistle at!

Friday was the long awaited Blackbelt Ceremony.  (More about this in a different post) Our babies are now officially fierce Warrior Princesses!

No sleeping in on Saturday.  We braved the icy roads to get to Mimi’s basketball game at the crack of dawn. Our wonderful coach Stinky bribed the girls with ice cream if they won…guess who’s meeting the entire team at Baskin Robbins before practice tomorrow?

At the end of soccer season, one of the parents had the bright idea that we should start an indoor soccer team.  Mimi was all for it, so Sunday marked out first game.  Indoor soccer is a lot more fun to watch then field soccer.  It’s fast paced, up close and more exciting.  (You have to be on your guard to duck for flying balls)

We don’t usually revolve our weekends around sports, but this last one seemed pretty full with them.  Thinking about this, it does seem as though Our Little Mimi may be a bit over scheduled.  It’s possible, but if she weren’t involved in outside activities, she’d most likely be plopped in front of the TV or computer playing Sims.  And I’d much rather she was running around having fun.

Stangely enough, folks around here are more excited about those SEAHAWKS, then Mimi’s games….

Lot’s of activity. Wow. What a fun weekend. I think a little Karate goes a long way especially as the girls start to date 🙂 Our friends (with four girls) enrolled them in karate before they could walk practically. Dad wanted to make sure no one would mess with his little girls. And sports beats the Sims any day.

That was a mighty busy weekend! But it sounds like a lot of fun too.

It’s so nice to see kids doing something other than watching TV! I’m glad you support her activities and she will someday look back on them with great memories. I did cheerleading all through junior high and high school and it was one of the best experiences I had–getting out there having fun. Loved the post and pics!

Quite a fun weekend. Congrats on the blackbelts, that is a wonderful accomplishment that will serve them well the rest of their lives.
