When I saw Kristine’s prompt for this week, “Something Red”, my mind went flying in all sorts of directions. In the last couple of years, I’ve fallen in love with the color red. I could start with my front door, I could use my couch, my throw rugs, my curtains, my jacket or even my purse. (It just occurred to me, I don’t have a big, shiny red coffee mug! Hint)
Then I thought about the obvious, most important reds in my life….my family. Shaun’s hair is much too short to show off. (although I suppose the beard would do) and KT’s hair has so many other colors in with the red. Therefore, I present my baby girl, Little Mimi and her glorious red hair.
Ever since she was tiny, Mimi’s hair has made her the center of attention. Real redheads aren’t all that common and people have always been fascinated by it. Adding to the allure, were the mounds of curls she had as a baby. ( I soooo need to drag out that scanner…then learn how to use it!) Mimi’s personality thrived on all that attention. She could easily keep a crowd of strangers entertained. (Maybe this is how she became the Drama Queen?)
Redheads, much like the Irish, are amazingly proud. It’s a huge part of their identity. I still remember the first question my mother-in-law asked after the birth of both of my children “What color is her hair?” I still think that’s an odd question. (Maybe that’s because both of my girls were bald, or because I only have a little red in my hair…hard to say!)
All I can really say, is that I adore this feisty little redhead.
