Hurray for Pie!

Generally speaking, I’m pretty inventive when it comes to silly holidays.  I can make up a character to bring joyful wishes at the drop of a hat.  (Remember the Valentine Bunny? And you do know that Paddy O’Furniture, the Magical Leprechaun is coming soon, don’t you?)  But I didn’t see today’s holiday coming.  Do you have any idea what today is? C’mon, there has to be at least one Math Geek out there!

Today, Wednesday 3.14 is Pi Day.  When KT asked me if I could please make her a pie to take in for her math class, I had to laugh.  Her math teacher is a young man with hollow legs.  He loves to eat, so I just knew that he came up with this idea so he could score some yummy treats.  Yes, he’s devious like that.  His classroom rule on eating is that you can have anything you want as long as you are willing to share with him!

Mimi informed me that, while her teacher wasn’t celebrating Pi Day, she had friends in other schools that were.  (Mimi seems to have friends everywhere)  They were all celebrating in different ways, most of them having pies as prizes for being able to recite the most Pi digits.

But not in Mr. I’s class.  For their celebration, the plan was to simply bring in pie to eat.  They ended up with four pies and a few dozen cupcakes…as well as four big jugs of pop.  Mind you this was all just for first period at 8:00 in the morning…for sixteen students…and one very hungry teacher.  Not too surprisingly, there were quite a few leftovers.  Even less surprising, Mr. I was more than willing to take them home.  When the kids suggested that he could share the treats with his wife, he looked at them sternly and told them “No.  These are mine.”   I can only wonder how many leftovers he ended up with through the day….

Anyways, Happy π Day

That’s funny. Very clever teacher there. Maybe he and his wife both can’t cook?

  4. Susan says:

Barb-well, I just learned about it too!

Gracey- well technically Albertson’s made the pie, but it’s dutch apple…

Jayman-Who know, he’s just this skinny guy that’s always hungry. KT says he walks a lot and that’s why he has to eat so much. He’s always doing something funny.

What a fun day. Pie is good even for breakfast and for me it would make the studying of PI much easier…

  6. Patsy Ann says:

Gee, I never had a teacher that was fun like that, or had such fun holidays! and for math! wonders never cease! And what is little KT learning in math now, and what form of math is it. I know it is something way far above my poor mind ability to conceive. mom

  7. Lynne says:

Gee, Susan. Here you got me all excited thinking how domestic you were, only to read down the comments and find out that Albertson’s made that yummy looking pie. Either way, it looks good for breakfast.

I too could have used a great math teacher. As it was I had terrible teachers and I now loathe math.

Dang it, now I want pie.

  14. Jocelyn says:

Oh, that Mr. Albertson’s. He’s made many a math teacher happy in his day…

I like the combination of being whimsical and being a little mercenary that this teacher has in his plan to score food…

  15. Dorky Dad says:

I spent my day researching pizza. Now we’re talking pie. Pizza. Pie. I need a pizza pie. And then I need pie.

  16. Susan says:

Hmmmm….I don’t know if I should feel badly or giggle that I got you all starving for pie…that I didn’t even make! tee hee

About Paddy…he’s a little uncertain as to what to do because of various sleepovers this weekend…

  17. I will have to celebrate “Pi Day” next year.
