We got a bright and early start leaving town shortly before noon. Shaun, of course, had to laugh at all the things I needed to bring. Naturally I’ve discovered several things that I’ve forgotten…and you know it’s all his fault.
My first choice of the Olympic Peninsula was nixed because the temperature over there was a bit too chilly for riding with the top of the jeep down. So we headed over the Washington Pass towards the North Cascades. I just marveled over how green and beautiful this part of the world is.
Once we hit the top of the summit, our eighty degree weather took a nose dive. Suddenly there was a blanket of pink snow covering the world. (Shaun says it was pink because of bacteria. That sounds unlikely to me, but as I avoid snow, I’ll have to trust him)
We finally came to the city of Winthrop, an old-time western theme town. Shaun had told me this was the destination he had in mind…but…well…some things are easy to forget about. It looked a bit to gimmicky to me, but he had his heart set on it.
At his insistence, we stopped and got a room. My heart sunk when he handed me the key. When is the last time you saw one of these?
To my delight the hotel that looked rather “iffy” from the front turned out to be wonderful. We sat on our personal balcony watching the river below us and eating a picnic dinner that we picked up at the local grocery store.
All in all we’ve had a wonderful day…..
