I Must Be Nuts!

When I was a young, one of the things I wanted to do when I grew up was to be a novelist.  (I think that was somewhere in between being a stewardess and a pediatrician)  I even have a thick, hand written notebook in a box somewhere in the garage with my first novel in it.  As I recall it was science fiction with cats as the dominant race.  When I proudly showed my work to carefully selected victims friends and family they couldn’t get past the strange, hard to pronounce names of my characters to read the actual story.  Crestfallen, I put down my ink pen and went on to other things.

Now, a couple few several years later, I’ve heard about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) The goal of this project is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November.  I thought about this…very briefly…and then signed up for the other option, NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo is short for National Blog Posting Month.  For thisproject, all you have to do is post on your blog.  Every. Single. Day.

I already do post fairly frequently. (OK, certain people don’t think I post quite frequently enough, but we won’t worry about them right now)   But I seem to have a bit of a problem with commitment.  (Well…I have kept Shaun for twenty years or so, but I think that’s mostly because he is like a stray puppy that won’t go away once you feed it).   Well, maybe it’s not commitment so much, as it is obligation.  I don’t like to feel obligated.  There, I said it.

I may have put down my ink pen years ago, letting go of the dream to be the Great American Novelist so many years ago, (I’m ok with that, I don’t really want to be a stewardess or a pediatrician any more either) but I do use the keyboard to blog somewhat regularly.  So, as of November first, by my own free will, completely un-obligated, I will post everyday.  (Of course, there’s no knowing what I’ll be posting…).  I seriously must be nuts to take on this non-commitment/obligation!

If you choose to join me, come visit my page and be my friend!

  1. Yea! It will (should?) be fun!! 🙂

  2. Jay says:

Hmmm … I might think about doing that too. I post pretty often as it is. On the days that I don’t post I’m sure I could come up with some sports takes to bore people with if nothing else.

But, that’s another social networking site. Pretty soon the internet will be nothing but social networking sites. LOL

  3. Karina says:

I did something similar to the NaBoPloMo earlier this year (a 30 posts in 30 days challenge) and that’s what really got me going on blogging, so I think I may do this one as well. I’ll let you know if I do!

  4. Patsy Ann says:

Hey, I can’t help it if I couldn’t pronounce your very strange, very long names that you came up with for your story char….., ; you couldn’t say them either! But I do remember you writing and I do remember enjoying your effort. and you have a punny excuse for stopping! So get off of your butt and write a novel; yes you can and you can also blog at the same time and I know that Shaun will agree with me.

I think Bubba looks sad. Maybe its because you still have that unwritten novel in you…I do blog every day (just about) but know alreay that I won’t be home some of the time in November.
Have a 2 day job and visiting relatives over the Thanksgiving holidays. So sorry I can’t commit…

  6. Tink says:

50,000 words in one month! Phew. Maybe if I gave up eating and sleeping…

  7. Betty says:

I couldn’t possibly write 50,000 words in one month – especially a month with Thanksgiving or Christmas in it. But, then, I couldn’t write 50,000 words in a year and hope to be coherent.

  8. Lynne says:

Better start storing up those ideas so you’ll have a daily supply. You can always just post a photo, can’t you? That should count as a blog entry!

Why not try and write a book? A children’s book? My sister wrote me little “booklets” when I was small. She even illustrated them. I’ve been thinking about featuring them on my blog since I still have them. They are treasures!

  9. Kell says:

I’m not sure I have the discipline to even blog every day, let alone write 50,000 words in a month. I’m far behind in the posts I want to post already! But maybe I should, just to see if I can. Hmmmmmm….

  10. Keshi says:

When I was lil, I wanted to write my life story some day…in a strange way it has come true…cos my blog is my life story..

  11. Dorky Dad says:

Can’t do it. I’ll be in hell … er, the in-laws’ … for Thanksgiving. They live in hell … er, rural Canada. (I love Canada; I don’t love where they live …)

But I wish you luck, and godspeed, and I shall be paying close attention to your posts!

  12. Terra says:

    I wish you tons of luck… I would join you but I just am… to… ummm… well… unreliable with my blog lately… 🙂

I love the fish, I almost told you my fish story (you know that one fish that grew this big…)

  13. Susan says:

    Hi Casual!~Um…sure it will!

Jay~I’ve been having fun on this network. I just can’t seem to get into the Facebook thing and I never did myspace… Go for it, we’ll be nuts together!

Karina~Really? And you did the whole thing? Fun!

Mudder~of course he’ll agree with you…aren’t you two supposed to hate each other?

Sue~I’ve been wondering about the holidays too…I’m not quite sure how that will work out. Only time will tell…

    Tink~Eh, those are pretty over-rated anyways…

Betty~Oh, I bet you could. You’ve got that talent.

Lynne~I’d love to see those little books. What a great thing you sister did for you.

Kell~That’s pretty much my attitude. Just to see… Besides, you need to catch us up on all of your travels.

Keshi~And what a wild life it is!

DD~Do they at least have running water?

Terra~OK, I’m going to wait anxiously for your fish story. And it better not have a bad ending or Bubba will come after you!

  14. Peggy says:

My mom did that last year and did all 50,000 words. Maybe someday, but not yet.

I sure do like the photo of Bubba.

  15. Frances says:

    Hi Bubba.
I bet that sci-fi you wrote about the cat people was great. 🙂

  16. Great news! I’ll be reading…
