When I was a young, one of the things I wanted to do when I grew up was to be a novelist. (I think that was somewhere in between being a stewardess and a pediatrician) I even have a thick, hand written notebook in a box somewhere in the garage with my first novel in it. As I recall it was science fiction with cats as the dominant race. When I proudly showed my work to carefully selected
victims friends and family they couldn’t get past the strange, hard to pronounce names of my characters to read the actual story. Crestfallen, I put down my ink pen and went on to other things.
couple few several years later, I’ve heard about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) The goal of this project is to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. I thought about this…very briefly…and then signed up for the other option, NaBloPoMo.
NaBloPoMo is short for National Blog Posting Month. For thisproject, all you have to do is post on your blog. Every. Single. Day.
I already do post fairly frequently. (OK, certain people don’t think I post quite frequently enough, but we won’t worry about them right now) But I seem to have a bit of a problem with commitment. (Well…I have kept Shaun for twenty years or so, but I think that’s mostly because he is like a stray puppy that won’t go away once you feed it). Well, maybe it’s not commitment so much, as it is obligation. I don’t like to feel obligated. There, I said it.
I may have put down my ink pen years ago, letting go of the dream to be the Great American Novelist so many years ago, (I’m ok with that, I don’t really want to be a stewardess or a pediatrician any more either) but I do use the keyboard to blog somewhat regularly. So, as of November first, by my own free will, completely un-obligated, I will post everyday. (Of course, there’s no knowing what I’ll be posting…). I seriously must be nuts to take on this non-commitment/obligation!

This is Bubba.
(OK, that might not be his real name, he wouldn’t tell me what it was) He lives at the aquarium downtown and I go to visit him evey once in a while.
