KT has always had more faith in my abilities than I ever have.  Her whole life she’s known that she has but to ask me to do something  special for her and I will do my best to make it happen.  Over the years, I’ve created some pretty fancy birthday cakes, elaborate Halloween costumes, a semi-formal dress and painted an underwater world in her room.

I’ve often thought there wasn’t any possible way I could actually do what she had asked me to.  Yet her unwavering faith has caused me to actually try and of course, to succeed in each endeavor.

My eldest child has, once again, cooked up a new project for me.  She wants me to make her a coat.  Yes, a coat.  I tried to explain to her that people don’t make coats, they go to the store and buy them.  She simply wouldn’t listen to my very reasonable explanation.  (You know something is wrong when I’m the one being logical!)  KT’s thoughts were that I could make her the exact coat that she wanted.

So the search for the perfect pattern and the perfect fabric began.  Fortunately for me, it took a while for KT to decide on what she wanted.  But  eventually she did.  So in the next week or so, I will magically transform these few yards of fabric into a fully lined, perfect corduroy coat for my daughter.

kts almost coat

I”m only doing this because KT has faith that I actually can…

If she didn’t stretch your skills like that, you’d never improve. Just think how you’ll feel when you get that jacket finished! (good luck setting those sleeves!)

I saw the pic of that dress you made for her a little while ago. I totally have faith that you can do it. I can’t wait to see it!!! Woohoo!!!!

I’m looking forward to seeing it completed…I do believe a fashion show is in order for your bloggies, please! After seeing many fruits of your labor displayed on here over the past months, I have faith in you, too!
    Just have fun with it!

That’s going to be a really cool coat.

Maybe we should all start putting in our orders for cool stuff too? You could start your own internet business right here!

  5. Amanda says:

Ooh, I can’t wait to see the final product! It will be beautiful. If you find that it isn’t too hard, you can sell them…I’ll take one!

I’m sure the end result will be brilliant, look forward to seeing it.

Children have unwaivering faith in parents which is lovely. I remember making beccy a grey wool jacket with red satin lining ( from remnants) it was the first time I had ever lined anything or put in a heavy zip. She loved that coat and still talks about it now!!

It’s great that she has such faith in you, and obviously you’ve proven that her faith is well placed. I can’t wait to see what the outcome is!

My mom used to make alot of my clothes when I was youger, and I loved to be able to say “my mom made it”, so I’m sure that’s part of her need to have you do it!

  9. Betty says:

I’m sure you can do it, too! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

  10. Kell says:

My daughter did that to me with a prom dress once. It was black velvet halter style with a big white satin collar. Boy was it a learning curve, but we got through it with flying colors. Probably not a project I would have chosen, but a good one just the same. I’m anxious to hear your follow-up to this and see the finished product. It’s amazing what faith can do.

  13. Lisa's Chaos says:

Cool! When you’re done will you make the coat that I bought the pattern for last year but have yet to even try to attempt? 😀

  14. Mrs. G. says:

I honestly can’t believe you have the skillz to make a coat. You have many talents, woman.

  15. dancingwithfrogs says:

Gorgeous fabric. It’ll look fantastic when it’s done.

If I can conquer triangles on quilts; then you can conquer a coat. (Even though both triangles and coats are really really scary!!!)

  16. Tylor says:

I have faith in you even though I have no clue how one goes about making a coat.

  17. Jocelyn says:

I ADORE that this is about your kid pushing you to challenge yourself. Yes.

And the coat will be so cool. You’ll have to be proud of yourself.

  18. Linda says:

You GO girl! There’s nothing like your child absolutely knowing that there’s nothing you can’t do!…no I take that back – there’s nothing like proving it!

  19. Daisy says:

I think that you can do it. at least you’re working with really amazing cloth. 🙂

  20. i have faith that you will absolutely transform that gorgeous fabric into something worthy! please do show those photos of progress…

  21. Pamela says:

Is there ANYTHING harder to sew with than corduroy?

  22. Marianne says:

Just wondering how that coat is turning out!

What a good mom you are.

Isn’t it funny how our children have such faith in us? It’s both heart-warming and terrifying.
