I Might Even Be a Rock Star!

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve gotten a little behind in my blogging. But I’ve got really good excuses reasons.  First of all, I took off with eight of my best friends to a “scrapbook” retreat.  (more about that later).  Then I had to take a day to recover from my weekend. (Huge apologies to the Fun Monday bunch….it just wasn’t happening)  Then, I had to start with rehearsals

Yep, I said rehearsals.   I’ve decided that I’m going to be a Rock Star when the kids finally fly the nest.  (I had to come up with something didn’t I?)It’s hard work so I need to get started so that I’ll be ready to make my debut when it’s time.  The funny thing is, being a Rock Star was never one of my career choices…it’s interesting where life leads you.

For a Christmas/birthday gift for the girls, we got them an XBox 360 and a game called Rock Band.  On the off-chance  you are unfamiliar with this, it’s everything you need to start a band.   A guitar, drums and microphone. It also comes with some handy dandy software that shows you how to use those items.  It also includes an audience that cheers you on or boos you, depending on how well you perform.

Shaun and the girls have been playing this since the middle of December.  Although they’ve all been having great fun, it simply wasn’t something that interested me.  I don’t do video games.  (I’m not really fond of board games either, but that’s beside the point)

I’m not sure how, but the other night I found myself sitting at the drum set with the sticks in my hand.  With a quick tutorial, I was off and drumming.  Even though I stunk at it, I couldn’t quite put my drumsticks down.  I was determined to find the beat and rock the house down,

In the days since then, I’ve become a bit…let’s just say obsessed…with this new game.  It seems that all I can do is want to play and improve my um…talent.      When I hear a song on the radio, I play right along.  It won’t be long before you see my name in the big lights.  Now all I need to do is figure out how to turn the XBox on by myself….

While I was writing this post  Shaun  called from work to tell me that he had just finished playing a six song set with his co-workers.  Sigh…he just wants to steal my glory!

    Rock on! \m/

Someday I’m gonna get an Xbox or a Wii or whatever and nobody will ever hear from me again when it happens. LOL πŸ˜‰

  2. Dorky Dad says:

With his coworkers? A six-song set? I need to get that. Then I’ll bring it to work. I can’t think of a better place to use it.

  3. Jocelyn says:

This is about the third post I’ve read–written by a very smart adult–wherein the writer is addicted to this Guitar Hero-type game.

    I need to get one.

  4. Rock on! I have a whole Category devoted to this at my blog. My hubby and I have been addicted to Rock Band since it’s debut in November. (My little 2 yr old sings and dances with us!) My hubby has completed a “tour” on Medium for Guitar and Hard for Drums, and I’ve completed the “tour” in Expert for Vocals! We have 600,000 fans! We play with other friends online and have had people over to play the bass and guitar while we do the other parts. (My hubby has one of the other guitars from Guitar Hero, and you can add it to your band.)

Needless to say, we love it, and I’m glad you’ve discovered how much fun it is!!

  5. Cheryl says:

Sounds like a fun addiction! Rock on, Ms. Susan.

  6. Karina says:

That’s awesome! πŸ˜‰ I bought myself “Dance Dance Revolution” which is sort of like RockBand, except instead of playing instruments, you dance, and I’m totally addicted to it too. It’s a good thing though, because I’m actually jumping around and exercising while I play…yeah, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

So, when you become a famous rockstar, can I be your backup dancer? πŸ˜‰

  7. Susan says:

Jay~Better not get any of those toys then…we’d miss you!

DD~Yeah…he works with a bunch of geeks. They have a set to keep at work.

Jocelyn~Hmmm…my kids think it’s wierd that we are getting so into it. They think we are too old.

CP~You can play with others online? I didn’t realize that…although I’ve seen other people popping on. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet.

Cheryl~The only thing is, it’s cutting into my blogging time!

Karina~Of COURSE you can! Although I’m thinking of switching to vocals…those are the ones that get the real fame and glory!

  8. Tink says:

Remember when turning on a game system was as easy as sliding the game in and pushing the “ON” button? Whatever happened to those days? It took me forever to learn how to work our Playstation 3. FOREVER.

  9. Stephanie says:

I can join you with my killer Guitar Hero moves πŸ™‚ Rock on sista….rock on!

  10. Amanda says:

There can’t be a much better excuse for missing out on blogging time than that of pursuing a new talent.

I so wish that I had just been on a scrapbook retreat! I am so far behind…

  11. Kell says:

I’m holding up a light for you and swaying. I’m old school that way. I refuse to light up my cell phone and wave that.

    Rock on sister!

  12. Good luck with your musical endeavors!! If you need some FREE on line tutoring, please feel free to let me know!!

  13. Jenn says:

Nothing like replacing one obsession with another!

  14. Lisa's Chaos says:

A scrapbook retreat? That sounds like so much fun!

  15. Pamela says:

I’m behind too… slowing down actually.
I’m taking a digital imaging class — doing some bird watching on weekends.. and trying to paint.

And now… and now.. I want to play the drums with you!!!

  16. & this is why i stay away from all that gaming stuff going on with D. & my boys πŸ˜€

  17. Newt says:

I’m head banging as I type. Which is actually kinda difficult.

And here I thought I might be able to join your band. I kinda want to take up the Oboe.

  18. tommiea says:

all I can add is I love Rockstar from Nickelback……then i would totally be one of your groupies! I would even go save your parking space…..(baby fleebes had to do this when I was a senior) it is really an honor!

  19. Cazzie says:

Rockband hey..we have the xbox 360 guitar thingie,…I dont do too badly at it I guess πŸ™‚

  20. Frances says:

    Oh this is great.
it’s a must for the group site.
Happy drumming strumming and rum tum tiddly tumming πŸ™‚

  21. gawilli says:

Looks like I’m going to have to broaden my horizons! This sounds like fun.

  22. mjd says:

Susan, you are a Rock Star.

  23. Peggy says:

Well done – Over here we’ve been on the new Nintendo Wii. George and I are already Pro-bowlers. Did you know that once you get above 1000 points in bowling, you become a pro bowler AND you get a sparkely ball? It’s great!

I could never keep a beat, so I’ll leave the rock star stuff to you.

  24. My son who is a World of Warcraft something, has Rockstar and swears it is better than Guitar Hero, so I believe him. He also has what I term a Command Center, a full array of computers and monitors much like the geeks in a shadowy spy thriller with hacking intentions. Not that owning Rockstar will propel you into an espionage circle, but be careful! James Bond started somewhere! NLM

  25. wolfbaby says:

Yep this game is now all the rage LOL my niece and nephew have it and play it till no end… enjoy and have fun!!

  26. Lynne says:

I haven’t heard of Rock Band, but I have heard how addictive the guitar one is. Gaming is very addictive! We have the Wii system now. Love it!

    Rock on, Susan!
