Next to my bed~Fun Monday

For this week’s Fun Monday, Angela from The Lurchers would like to “know, or see, what’s on, in or under your bedside table!”  Hmmmm…nothing too interesting, but I’ll show you what I’ve got.

First of all, we don’t have bedside tables or commodes as my parents used to call them.  We decided when we first moved in this house that would just get small book shelves as we both have so many books.  Years later, we still have those same cheap-o bookshelves.  (Someday we’ll get grown-up furniture…)

The most important thing that lives on top of my bookshelf is my alarm clock.  Without, we’d never get up at the crack of dawn.  (Hmmm…maybe that wouldn’t be too bad)

bedclock

To keep my clock from getting lonely (and in hopes of keeping it quiet longer) I let my hair clips sit on it.  During the day, my wrist band is there.  The nightwatchman is a pair of glasses.

Right next to the alarm clock is something that has become very important to me.  My small, but oh so powerful Vornado.  There are some night that I don’t know what I would do without my little friend.  Getting older stinks….  (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, good for you…although your time will come!)

bedfan

On the other side of the shelf is my Taos Bag.  I use it to tote my library books back and forth and to hopefully keep them somewhat corralled.  Did you know that we are allowed to have one hundred books checked out at one time?  I haven’t had quite that many out at one time yet…

bedbag

In the middle I have little do dads.  Like a stack of coasters from Red Lobster that Shaun bravely got for me.  I have plans for them….

bedcoastrs

Some handwritten recipe cards from my mom, aunts and grandma.  What you think I should bring them in the kitchen and use them? Nah…these are treasures to keep near me.  Although I haven’t a clue what picadillo is supposed to be…

Tucked in the upper right had corner you can see an old cat collar.  And a hat my mom made for KT when she was tiny.

bedrecipes

Here are some unused gift cards.  A small box that has a bunch of small    things in it…and those RR coasters…

And, probably the most meaningful object.  (Well, except for the hat and the recipes) is an agate.  My mom collected it along a beach during her travels and Shaun polished it in his rock tumbler.  It makes me happy.

There you go.  Like I said, it’s not all that interesting.  (But there are a lot more bedsides to snoop at today!)

  1. I do love that piece of agate…I used to have a gold coloured bowl and it held all the stones that caught my attention when I was out walking!

Shelves are a very good idea and something we thought about as well as our bedroom is so small, but we never quite got around to it!

  2. Hootin' Anni says:

That agate is absolutely beautiful, isn’t it?!!! [And the kokopelli is one of my favorite southwest figures. We have a carved one on our fireplace mantle that hubby made!]

My fun monday is shared. Won’t you drop by sometime? I love visitors!

  3. We have got were we have to have a fan also. I think its the noise. Love the recipes being near the bed. Yes, that agate is beautiful!

  4. Ellen says:

What fun stuff you have at your bedside. We have that exact clock radio but it’s on my hubby’s side…
    The agate is amazing! Beautiful…

  5. Sieglinde says:

Very nice! I like the agate too.

  6. Lisa's Chaos says:

Am I the only one without an alarm clock? I too sleep with a fan on. And I spent some time sleeping with the wrist brace too. your agate is beautiful!

  7. Hilary says:

What a fun idea for a post. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  8. Jay says:

That’s much more interesting that what’s beside my bed. I just have a clock radio and some kleenexes. And a little pile of old monthly student loan statements that I need to shred. How boring is that?

  9. Kaycie says:

I don’t have an alarm clock, either, Lisa. It’s my hubby’s job to wake the household.

The agate is pretty. I love piccadillo and it’s one of hubby’s favorite quick dinners. You should take that to the kitchen and try it sometime!

  10. Kathy B says:

My fan is the ceiling fan, necessary! I love the recepies, and cat collar. How funny.

  11. chrisb says:

I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about an alarm clock any more! There was a time when I wish I’d had a fan~ these days I can get away with just sticking my feet out to cool down!
You keep little treasures like me and that agate is a beautiful colour.

  12. Lynne says:

You’d better use that Border gift card! What an eclectic bunch of stuff to keep next to your bed!

  13. giveitatry says:

Yours was Very interesting. I love all of the do-dads and stuff. I have that kind of stuff on my dresser and that wasn’t part of the assignment so I didn’t show it all. What ARE you going to do with the coasters?

  14. I always have to have a fan on as well whether it’s a ceiling fan or a little fan. Mine’s not so much for the cool air but more for the noise.

  15. Amanda says:

I have the same alarm clock! It is great, I have had it for 15 years at least. It does a good job at getting me up at the crack of dawn too….

How neat that you have those recipes and that beautiful rock. I can think of no better place to store them.

  16. Heather says:

You took some interesting pictures. Love the agate & all the little special things…

  17. Megan says:

Wow, you’ve got a lot of good stuff near ya while ya sleep! We just got back from Taos…we went there for our 10 year anniv getaway. Such a beautiful place.

  18. Laurie says:

not interesting? fascinating! a hundred library books? are there fines? they’d make a lot of money that way.

unused gift cards?? why??? get thee to barnes and noble.

    the agate is lovely.

and you took that picture at 11 p.m.? and still get up at hte crack of dawn? you are a far, far better woman than i.

  19. jill says:

you should use those gift cards and shop online if possible! let those gifts come to you! or use them to buy OTHER people gifts such as books for kids, etc. or if you’re not going to use them at all, I would give a book card to a teacher. they could SO use them. well, that’s just me.. giggle!

we can check out 60 books at a time from our library. i think ive gotten about 6-8 each time so far. not 60…

  20. jill says:

oh and i would think a commode is a toilet. odd.

  21. Faye says:

Ah yes–I know what the vornado’s function is. If that doesn’t work take my friend’s lead and stand in front of the open freezer section of your fridge!

Lot’s of stone fanciers in this group–never knew what tumbling actually did for a stone–now I do.

  22. Sandy says:

I, too, know about the fan! Try some wild yam – it’s available at your health food store. Made it worse for the first 2-3 days but I haven’t needed a fan since!

  23. robinellablog says:

Oh I’d say it is very interesting! Says a lot about the owner. 🙂

I don’t have a Vornado and don’t need it for THAT yet, but I have to have a fan going when I sleep. Our current house has a ceiling fan over our bed which hubby hates cause it dries his throat when he sleeps. Maybe I should invest in a little tabletop fan so it only blows on me. Great idea.

  24. I like your picture borders. Very interesting items for a bedside table!

  25. Alison says:

It is very interesting….I love the agate, it is beautiful!!

  26. Karina says:

OOOH, that’s a pretty stone! 100 books at a time? Really? Wow, I wonder how many we can check out of mine?? I may have to call and ask!

  27. jettied says:

Hi there…You are not alone..i too have a fan..it’s a must! when ever we go traveling this too must come..if i forgit we stop and buy one!!! love the hair clips!!
We have battery operated alarm clocks cause i can’t stand the light from the plug in ones!!!!!

  28. Molly says:

You may be wrong about not being interesting. You have a little bit of everything to keep us all happy. I like the agate and the book bag. I think that we can only check out 25 books, and I have been very close to that limit.

  29. Carrie says:

Love the agate rock, very pretty. Thanks for sharing!

  30. Mariposa says:

That rock, rocks! I love it! Happy MM!

  31. Tiggerlane says:

So THAT’S where all my clippies went! AHA!!

I like the smooth rock – I rub rocks like that to soothe my soul.

  32. What an eclectic combination of things you have. I love it. It’s so personal.

  33. Celeste says:

All of a sudden, my bedside belongings feel very sterile — but I don’t think I own the objects that would make it quite as personal as yours.

  34. Linda says:

I was going to say just what Celeste said above… I love reading about the things people love and the home they’ve found next to their bed. It’s all so warm and fuzzy! I think there is a story in every object you mentioned.

  35. Courtney says:

Man, I would LOVE to see those recipes! The tried and true hand me downs are always the best.

  36. Serina says:

I love the rock. I have always had a thing for rock tumblers.

  37. tmulcahy says:

I’m one of those people who don’t use alarms clocks either. I do keep a clock handy to look at. Funny to see the Taos bag, since I’m just a bit south of there in Albquerque.
I have a low chest of drawers (2) next to my bed that was given to me by my step-daughter when she moved out of her apartment. On top, it has acquired three tweezers and 3 razor blades, a small keychain light, a yellow Horse brand penknife, a fish-shaped Russian penknife, fingernail clippers, toenail clippers, and an unused underwater disposable camera, the lighted clock, two compression wraps for my arches, unscented deodorant, Wlagreens’ Foot Spray, a tube of generic anitfungal foot cream, anda small jar of emu oil cream for my cracked heel, and keys to my old house. Inside are tow may things to list, but one drawer is mostly belt buckles.

  38. janet says:

the photo borders are very cool…

    and … um… i think i covet your fan. 😉

  39. I treasure my handwritten recipes from my mom and grandma too. Fun post.

  40. Sirdar says:

I think I know why you have that fan. I’m sure glad I’m male 🙂

Very pretty agate you have there.

  41. i too have the wristbands, or splints as i call them – your bedside is way more interesting than mine!

  42. Pamela says:

I think my bedside would have been much more like yours. Lots of weird stuff.

Glad you played (sorry I didn’t)

  43. mamalang says:

I’m late following up on the Fun Monday posts…but better late then never!

I don’t know what our max number of books are, but I haven’t hit it yet.
