Our 15 year old border collie, Mia, died last January and life just isn't the same. So, I really empathize with you. If they leave a hole in our hearts when they pass, then we know we've loved them enough. *sniffle....honk* (that's me blowing my nose, sorry) Sammy looks like a little love and I hope he brings you many more happy memories (and us fun ancedotes to read!) What a story!! We, too, have an 11 year old lab and it is breaking my heart each day to see him growing old...and unable to play even though he really, REALLY wants to!! He is still happy, is still eating, just cannot get around like he used to. He has lost most of his ability to move his back end. Terrible arthritis. I adopted him from our humane society when he was just 12 weeks old. He is a very special guy...always has been. I swear he can read my mind...and I his! I know one day I will have to make that very difficult and painful decision...but for now, I am enjoying each and every day that I have with my Zippo. We have two little bichons that keep him company too. Your puppy is so cute! Oh my! What a story!! I think you should follow YOUR heart and do those things that bring you joy. Now that I'm 58, I've done a good bit of what was on my list -- wanted to go to Alaska and see whales; visit Italy -- haven't para-sailed, yet, though. :) I had to laugh about your upsetting your children by your crying while you wrote.
