How to Embarrass Your Child…Without Really Trying

As my child has gotten older, soccer season lasts longer and longer.  In fact, sometimes it lasts longer than us devoted parents really want to be out watching the game.  Yet, because we are devoted parents, we still go and cheer our offspring on.

Last week’s game, was a beautiful sunny day.  I was hopeful that it would be a great day for spectator sports, yet I’ve learned to be a little skeptical when it comes to the weather.  So, before leaving for the soccer fields, I poked my head out the door to see what it really felt like outside.  My worst fears came true when I nearly lost my nose to instant frostbite.

I was a Girl Scout and knew that I had best be prepared. I went into survivor mode and set about collecting blankets, heavy mittens, hot water bottles and anything I could possibly think of to keep Shaun and I warm.  Mimi grabbed a sweatshirt as she headed out the door and said she was fine.

We were nearly to the fields when Mimi started rooting around in the mound of supplies I had piled in the back seat.

“Moooommm?” She asked cautiously

“Are you going to wear that hat grandma made you?”

“Yes I am.” I answered

“Oh nooooooooo….”

For some reason, my entire family thinks my hat is hideous.  I think it looks fine and it keeps my head warm.  Besides, it’s great to embarrass my kid with!

  1. I remember those days….I had two in select soccer at the same time…I had to juggle…love for daughter or love for sitting on the couch reading a book….daughters won out. 🙂

  2. Shaun says:

I think the hat complements her husband’s beard very nicely!

  3. kathy says:

The hat is darling! And I live to embarrass my kids!!
